OMAHA, NE – The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce announced today the selection of Alec Gorynski as its new senior vice president of economic development.

“Alec is the economic development leader we’ve been looking for,” said Heath Mello, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber. “In our search, we wanted someone with a broad array of strong leadership attributes, community development experience, and a history of cultivating meaningful personal relationships. Alec’s background makes him a perfect fit for this crucial role for the Chamber and for our community.”

In this position, Gorynski will be responsible for spearheading initiatives and strategies to promote economic growth, support current businesses, attract new investment opportunities and enhance the overall economic vitality of the greater Omaha community. This also includes collaborating on ways to enhance workforce development, cultivating public-private partnerships, and advocating for infrastructure improvements that enhance Omaha’s competitiveness, and attractiveness to businesses.

“We are proud of all that Omaha has to offer, especially now as Forbes #1 city to move to,” said Mello. “We also recognize that there are challenges our team will need to meet head-on, including the brain drain trend of our region’s talent. We look forward to Alec’s leadership in elevating our strengths and overcoming these challenges to improve Omaha’s overall economic future.”

Gorynski currently serves as President and CEO of the Lincoln Community Foundation, where he leads the organization’s efforts to facilitate philanthropy and community leadership to develop the Lincoln community.

Gorynski comes to the Chamber with nearly 20 years of extensive economic and community development experience in both professional and community roles. He has served as the vice president of community development for FNBO and president of the FNBO Community Development Corporation, vice president for Community Affairs at Bank of the West, deputy grant administrator for the City of Omaha Office of the Mayor, and as an economic development staff in the City of Omaha Planning Department.

Gorynski holds a master’s of public administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and bachelor of science degrees in psychology and criminal justice from Peru State College. Gorynski and his wife Laura have three children: Jamie (11), Ben (8), and Claire (7).

“I am bullish on the future of Omaha,” said Gorynski. “This position will be at the forefront of Omaha’s economic growth, and the Chamber’s role is absolutely critical for convening community leaders, as well as capturing new opportunities, and for developing strategic plans to continue our upward trajectory. We all have a stake in building the Omaha we want to see, and I’m excited to leverage my background and expertise to create generational momentum forward.”
